MATTHEWS
Jane Elizabeth Warfel passed away on the family farm just south of Matthews at the age of 100.
She was born on May 26, 1918 on the family farm and was the daughter of Anthony (Tony) E. and Mary (Charles) Martini. Jane graduated from Gaston High School in 1936.
She was a member of “the greatest generation”. Her childhood and adolescent years were spent actively helping care for the family farm by tending fields with horses and tractors, along with selling produce, meat and poultry in Muncie.
Jane married Joseph D. Warfel on October 10, 1940 and moved to Columbus. She moved back to the family farm in 1976 to care for her mother.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jospeh; a brother, Karl; and her son, Edward.
Jane is survived by three children, Mary A. Stueby (husband, Larry), Joseph F. Warfel (wife, Myrna) and Daniel Warfel; ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
As a wife and mother, she gave her all, her best and an endless supply of love. She put her children, her husband and many others ahead of herself. Jane had a tremendous amount of energy that was often times spent making life easier and happier for others. Her grace, kindness and a true inability to say an unkind word of anyone were hallmarks of the life she lived with great exuberant joy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on February 6, 2019 in St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Donald Ewulu presiding. Burial will follow in Matthews Cemetery.
