Deputies searching for suspect in Centra robbery in Taylorsville

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies, assisted by a number of local police departments, are searching for a suspect who robbed a Centra branch in Taylorsville.

Deputies were sent to the Centra building at 1170 N. U.S. 31 at 2:28 p.m. today where they were told an individual had robbed the bank and left with an undisclosed amount of money, leaving in a four-door gold Pontiac, said Sheriff Matt Myers. No weapon was displayed and no one was injured at Centra, he said.

The suspect is described as 5 foot, 6 inches tall, 180 pounds, wearing dark pants, a black jacket with a gray hoodie underneath, gloves, wearing glasses and with his face covered with a bandana, Myers said. The suspect was also wearing a dark-colored baseball cap.

At 2:35 p.m., deputies and firefighters were notified of a car on fire on Tannehill Road near County Road 280W, a car believed to be the Pontiac used in the Centra robbery, Myers said.

The car was on fire and abandoned when deputies arrived.

Deputies continue to search for two or three other vehicles that the suspect may have taken after abandoning the Pontiac, Myers said.

If anyone has information about the robbery or the suspect’s location, they are asked to call Detective Capt. Chris Roberts at 812-379-1650.

The sheriff’s department was assisted by the Indiana State Police, Edinburgh police, DNR, the Excise police and Columbus Police Department.
