A Columbus Signature Academy — New Tech High School student is among the competitors at this weekend’s Poetry Out Loud state finals in Indianapolis.
Rebecca Moore is among the finalists who will compete at the Indiana State Library at 9 a.m. Saturday. The event is free and open to the public.
The national Poetry Out Loud program encourages the study of great poetry by offering education materials and a dynamic recitation competition to high school students. The state champion receives a $200 cash prize and an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C., to compete in the national finals in April. The state’s champion school receives a $500 stipend to purchase poetry books. The national champion receives a $20,000 college scholarship.
