At the 2009 Brown Music Competition, Caleb Blackerby placed first in the Anna Newell Brown Awards for Vocal Excellence division and Jules Rogers, playing the alto saxophone, took first place in the Betty F. Brown Awards for Instrumental Excellence division.


After students missed seven days of classes because of snow, extreme cold or ice, Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. officials scrambled to reschedule starting dates for summer school and the date of graduation ceremonies.


Stating castings were cheaper to buy than make, Cummins Engine Co. announced it would close its Great Lakes Foundry in South Bend.
