Letter: Pass legislation to keep kids safe from guns

Pass legislation, keep kids safe from guns

From: Ann Herron, Cate Hyatt, Liz Nolan-Greven, Amy Thomas and Julie Wagner, the MOMs Columbus Leadership Team

Columbus

On Feb. 14, 2018, a gunman opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, killing 17 students and staff members and injuring 17 others.

As we approach this terrible anniversary, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense (MOMs) continues working diligently to draw attention to new legislation that needs to be passed to keep our children safe. MOMs supports:

Background checks

Red flag laws

Domestic violence legislation

Gun violence research funding

Repeal of gun industry immunity

MOMs members have no desire to take away people’s guns. In fact, much of our work is dedicated to supporting responsible gun owners and training others to take responsibility for safe storage of their guns so that these kinds of tragedies are less frequent. We support keeping guns out of the hands of individuals who should not have access.
