Columbus Regional Hospital received a federal grant of more than $46 million for repairs to the facility’s basement and first floor, which were damaged by the June 2008 flood, bringing total federal assistance to about $60 million.

Taking what Columbus Mayor Eret Kline described as “emergency” action, city officials closed the Eighth Street bridge carrying U.S. 31 traffic over the Flat Rock River after state highway engineers found the structure to be unsafe during a routine inspection.
