COLUMBUS
Jerome “Jerry” Sorrels, 69, of Columbus, passed away unexpectedly at 8:36 a.m. Thursday, February 21, 2019 at his home.
Jerry was born August 24, 1949, in Pekin, Indiana, the son of Daniel and Suzanne Rust Sorrels.
Mr. Sorrels retired from Cummins Engine Company in 2002 after 34 years of service. He was a longtime member of Lakeview Church of Christ. Jerry loved gardening and canning. After retirement, he devoted much of his time helping others and he helped others in any way he could, no matter the distance that needed to be traveled. Jerry also loved mushroom hunting and spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed by those that knew him.
Survivors include his sons, Kristin Sorrels, A.J. (Karen) Sorrels, Tim Sorrels, all of Columbus; grandchildren, Nicholas and Zachary Sorrels; siblings, Daniel (Sherry) Sorrels of Salem, Betty (Wayne) Pluris of Columbus, Sudan McMartin, Calvin (Tina) Sorrels, both of Salem, Lynn Bickel of Kentucky; several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dwight Sorrels, James Sorrels and sister, Beverly Goodson-Ford.
The funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home with Minister Dwayne Gandy officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home. In keeping with the family’s wishes, cremation will take place following the funeral service.
