East graduate takes third in Big Ten Indoor meet

Purdue’s Sarah Loesch finished third in the weight throw Friday in the Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Loesch, a senior from Columbus East, threw 69 feet, 7 1/2 inches (21.22 meters). That was just short of her personal-best 70 feet, 6 1/2 inches (21.50 meters), which she threw in finishing seventh in last year’s NCAA Indoor Championships.

North grad leads Western Kentucky past Indiana State

Tommi Stowers went 3 for 3 with a double, a triple and four RBIs in her first start of the season Monday to lead Western Kentucky to a 9-7 win against Indiana State.

Earlier in the day, Stowers, a junior catcher from Columbus North, had a pinch-hit double for the Hilltoppers (10-2) in an 8-0 win against Cleveland State.

"Tommi hit it today," WKU coach Amy Tudor told wkusports.com. "She’s seeing the ball great and has a ton of confidence. She’s worked really hard and works just as hard in the bullpen getting all of our pitchers ready, and she got her moment and she shined."

Indiana State’s Leslie Sims, a junior from Hauser, went 2 for 5 with two runs scored for against the Hilltoppers. Her sister, freshman Tessa Sims, allowed one run on one hit over the final 2 1/3 innings for the Sycamores (7-3).

Patberg scores 11 in loss at Northwestern

Ali Patberg recored 11 points and six rebounds and led Indiana with two assists and a blocked shot Tuesday in a 69-49 Big Ten women’s basketball loss at Northwestern.

Patberg, a redshirt junior from Columbus North, went 5 of 16 from the field, including 1 of 5 from 3-point range in a team high 35 minutes. Jaelynn Penn led the Hoosiers (18-11, 7-10) with 12 points.
