About 20 people answered Mayor Fred Armstrong’s “call to arms” to save Popfest and elected Mark Pillar chairman of an emerging committee to look for potential donors or committee members to begin planning the next step.


Bartholomew County commissioners unanimously approved an extension of Taylor Road north of Rocky Ford Road, a project to be done jointly with the city of Columbus and with the aid of federal funding that included improvements to Rocky Ford Road.


A strike of the 5,600-member independent Diesel Workers Union at Cummins Engine Co. began at midnight, only the second strike in the company’s history.
