Spring can’t get here fast enough for you? Head to the Caribbean — at least figuratively.
"Carnival VIP — The Mask Party 3" Caribbean culture and music event is set for 8 p.m. today at the Columbus Moose Lodge No. 398, 330 Eighth St.
The Mardi Gras-style event with Caribbean music with Indianapolis ensemble IRB with singer Leslie Red, Caribbean food for sale, and a cash bar, is meant to share a bit of the island culture, according to organizers. Part of the proceeds will go to support the nonprofit Lincoln-Central Neighborhood Family Center, which operates a range of programs helping low-income residents with everything from job training to child care skills.
"We hope to broaden the culture in Columbus by introducing our version of Carnival to you," said Debra Peters-Smith, one of the organizers and a native of Trinidad.
Tickets are $15 (giving attendees a Mardi Gras mask and party favors) and can be purchased on the Facebook page for Carnival – VIP 3 and also at Avis & Budget in Columbus at 735 Whitfield Drive; Advanced Business Computing, 832 Washington St., and Lincoln-Central Neighborhood Family Center, 1039 Sycamore St., and at the door.
