HOPE
Shirley E. Thayer, 83, of Hope, passed from this life at 7:19 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Johnson Memorial Health.
Mrs. Thayer was a retired nurse where she served as Director of Nursing for many Nursing Homes, served as Dr. James nurse for more than 20 years in Hope and was an Industrial Nurse for Harmon Motive in Martinsville.
A member of Hope Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ for area churches.
Shirley was born January 20, 1936 in Corydon, Indiana, the daughter of Arvil and Catherine Bottorff McKim.
She married, James T. Thayer May 14, 1952, he preceded her in death January 13, 2014.
Shirley along with her late husband opened their home to many of those in need.
The funeral will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Tim Dillingham officiating.
Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to time of service.
Burial will be at Hope Moravian Church.

Survivors include her children, Michael T. (Lisa) Thayer of Columbus; Rebecca D. (Charles) Humphress of Columbia, KY; Roger (Kelly) Thayer of Hope and Patricia E. (Thomas) Weber of Columbus; 17 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sisters, Doris Wolters, Juanita Harden, Wilma Crippen and Jerry Burton.
