Lancers take second in season-opening tourney
NEW RICHMOND, Ohio — Edinburgh opened the softball season with a second-place finish in the New Richmond (Ohio) Tournament.
The Lancers beat Hilltop from West Unity, Ohio, 14-3 in the semifinals. Catey Streeval went 4 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, Sidney Beier went 3 for 5 with a triple, Carly Cowan went 3 for 5, Paige Burton went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Morgan Calhoun went 2 for 4 with a double, Sidney Graham went 2 for 5 and threw a six-hitter. Emma Wade had three RBIs, and Taylor Littiken added two RBIs.
Edinburgh fell to New Richmond 14-5 in the title game. Beier went 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Kaitlyn Bailey went 2 for 4. Graham and Beier combined to allow 12 hits and nine earned runs.
"Shelby had a great weekend for us, showing us what the future for our Lancers pitching staff looks like," Edinburgh coach Ben Taylor said. "…We just needed another arm to help us stay competitive in the game that we didn’t have today. Sidney pitched for the first time in a number of years and did her best to keep us going."
