MALE

Julian Greenwell, Columbus East senior baseball player

Greenwell went 2 for 4 and threw a four-hitter with 15 strikeouts in a 9-0 win against Cathedral, went 4 for 5 with two homers and four RBIs in a 16-0 win at Seymour and went 3 for 5 and 1 for 4 in a doubleheader sweep at Floyd Central.

His performance last week: “I was pretty happy with my performance. I knew the Cathedral game was going to be a little bit challenging, but the whole team really came through the whole game. The offense did a great job and really helped me a lot.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “My routine is to not have a routine because I think that if something goes wrong with the routine, then everything is going to be messed up. So if I don’t have a routine, then there’s nothing to mess up.”

Favorite class: “Medical Interventions”

Role model: “My dad (John Greenwell)”

Best advice: “Never bunt.”

Athletics goal: “Win state in baseball.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Hawaii, because I want to go surfing.”

FEMALE

Kayla Truesdell, Jennings County senior track athlete

Truesdell won the shot put (42 feet, 5 inches) and discus (121-2) in a tri meet against Seymour and Bedford North Lawrence. She also won the shot (41-7 1/2) and finished second in the discus (122-7) in Jeffersonville’s Red Devil Inferno.

Her performance last week: “It was OK. I need to do better. There are still some things I need to fix. It’s a work in progress.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I just imagine how I want to execute each throw. I have key words that I concentrate on rather than concentrating on every little thing.”

Favorite drink: “White Cherry Gatorade”

Favorite food: “Steak”

Favorite book: “The Things They’ve Carried”

Favorite class: “Anatomy”

Role model: “My throwing coach (Justin Smith)”

Best advice: “It only takes one throw.”

Athletics goal: “I want to go to the Midwest Meet of Champions this year and get the (school) discus record.”
