Bartholomew County Solid Waste Management District sponsors Earth Day activities Saturday

Bartholomew County Solid Waste Management District will have a variety of Earth Day activities at the Columbus/Bartholomew Recycling Center, 720 S. Mapleton St., from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

It will be Amnesty Day for hard-to-dipose-wastes at the event for Bartholomew County residents only who may recycle up to two refrigerant-containing appliances, two outdated gas grill propane tanks and up to four personal vehicle tires, all at no cost. Rims must be removed and tractor tires will not be accepted.

A plant swap from 10 a.m. to noon and a hot dog roast from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. are planned. The kidscommons is offering children’s activities from 9 a.m. to noon. Mulch/compost loading will be offered, weather permitting.

Speedy Shred will offer document shredding from 9 to 11 a.m. Various educational displays will be open. Book Express is seeking gently used books to trade or donate. A recycle center tour is planned at 2 p.m.

There will be giveaways of a compost bin and hand chair. T-shirts, sponsored by Toyota Industrial Equipment, will be handed out to kids age 12 and younger while supplies last.
