HARTSVILLE
Clifford Olmstead, 88, of Hartsville, died Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at his home.
Clifford retired after working as a salesman at Bradley Chevrolet in Franklin from 1983 to 1995. He had also worked at Kaler Candy and Tobacco/Columbus Wholesale and Robertson Chevrolet in Edinburgh.
Clifford was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He was baptized on November 10, 1946 by Fred Schlafer and was ordained a deacon on May 15, 2005. He was also a member of Edinburgh Masonic Lodge 100.
He enjoyed farming, gardening, NASCAR, and IU basketball. He also enjoyed riding on his Cub Cadet. Clifford never met a stranger and could talk to you for five minutes and know your whole life story.
Born on November 6, 1930 in Bartholomew County, Clifford was the son of Jettie and Freeda Stater Olmstead. He married Lois Jones on September 3, 1949 at Bethel Baptist Church, and they had been married for 69 years.
Survivors include his wife, Lois of Hartsville; children, Brenda Olmstead of Columbus and Dennis Olmstead of Greenfield; grandson, Jason Williams of Bloomington; and siblings, Minnie Stitt of Columbus and Glen Olmstead of Hope.
Clifford is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Edna Wood; and brothers, Marshall and Floyd “Bud” Olmstead.
A service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, 142 Deaver Road Columbus, IN, with Jim Pursley and Adam Carrigan officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Burial will follow at Bethel Baptist Cemetery.
