U.S. Rep. Greg Pence, R-Indiana, has introduced his first legislation in the House of Representatives, House Bill 2460 with House Agriculture Committee Chairman Rep. Collin Peterson, R-Minnesota.
The bill aims to reduce the regulatory burden on the transportation and agricultural communities to ensure farmers and producers may transport their goods and commodities in a safe, efficient manner, according to a news release from the congressman.
The bill, entitled the Modernizing Agricultural Transportation Act of 2019, would direct the U.S. Department of Transportation to examine hours of service regulations and electronic logging device regulations to identify obstacles to the safe, humane and market-efficient transport of livestock and other perishable agricultural commodities.
Peterson said current hours of service and electronic logging device regulations place unrealistic burdens on producers and ag haulers.
