IUPUC to award nearly 300 degrees at Saturday commencement

IUPUC will honor 297 graduates at its 49th annual commencement celebration at 3 p.m. Saturday at Columbus East High School.

The class of 2019 includes students receiving associate’s, bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business, business administration, education, nursing, general studies, communication studies, criminal justice, English, sociology, mechanical engineering, biology, psychology, and mental health counseling.

The total includes 74 graduates from December and 223 May or August graduates. This year marks the first commencement in which degrees in sociology and criminal justice will be awarded by IUPUC. Both of those degree programs were approved in 2018.

Student speakers include Seth Sharpe, president of the Student Government Activities Board, who will give the welcoming address, and Megan Mills, who will deliver the Chancellor’s Scholar address.

The keynote speaker for the ceremony is Columbus business executive Tom Harmon. Harmon simultaneously serves as the CEO of Harmon Steel, CEO of Taylor Bros. Construction Co., and president of Harmon Construction. This group of companies is known as the Harmon Group.

The commencement ceremony is free and open to the public. Free parking is available on the Columbus East High School Campus.
