SEYMOUR — Two Seymour residents were injured in a single vehicle crash on I-65 in the southbound lanes near the 47 mile marker in Jackson County.

Indiana State Police were called to the accident scene at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, said Sgt. Stephen Wheeles, state police spokesman.

According to the initial investigation by Trooper Matt Holley, a 2011 GMC Acadia, being driven by Daniel L. Stone, 37, was traveling southbound on I-65 near the 47 mile marker.  For an unknown reason, Stone’s vehicle left the right side of the roadway and struck the New Farmington Road overpass.

The vehicle overturned and came to rest in the left lane of southbound I-65, Wheeles said.  Daniel Stone sustained serious injuries in the crash and was transported to Scott County Memorial Hospital before being transferred to the University of Louisville Hospital.

A passenger in Stone’s vehicle, Tiffany Stone, 35, was initially trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by emergency personnel.  She was then flown from the scene to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

I-65 Southbound was shut down for approximately two hours for crash investigation and cleanup.

The investigation is ongoing.

Assisting at the scene were the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Jackson County EMS, Vernon Township Fire Department and Stat Flight.
