CPD investigating battery incident at library

Columbus police are investigating a battery that was reported outside the Bartholomew County Library on Memorial Day.

Although some people on social media have said the incident was a rape, the police department said they are classifying the incident as battery at this time. Detectives are continuing an investigation to obtain more information before changing that designation or releasing any more details about the incident.

The incident was reported outside the library at 5 p.m. on Memorial Day, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman. When asked where the incident occurred, Harris said he could only say it was outside, and on library property.

The police department is not in any way discrediting the allegations that have been made by the victim, but information so far is leading the department to classify the incident as a battery at this time, Harris said.
