Jennings jail inmate injured after jumping from second level of the jail

JENNINGS COUNTY — A Jennings County jail inmate is being treated for injuries after he jumped from the second level of the interior of the jail.

The incident happened at 7 p.m. Friday, said Jennings County Sheriff Department Chief Deputy Dave Turner. The inmate, who is 30 and is not being identified until family is notified, was initially taken to St. Vincent Jennings Hospital and then transferred to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

During the preliminary investigation, video evidence shows the man jumping from the second story level falling to the ground level. Other inmates immediately went to his aid while jail staff responded. Additional evidence obtained during the investigation indicates that the male was suffering from an emotional/psychological issue, Turner said.
