Multiple fire departments battle house blaze

A fire broke out late Saturday afternoon in a house by North County Road 475E.

A house fire northeast of Columbus required about 50 fire fighters from nine volunteer departments to get it under control.

The German Township, Hope and Clifford fire departments were the first to arrive at a fire at 6898 N. County Road 475E, which was called it at 3:55 p.m. Saturday by property owner Don Hamilton. The house was engulfed by the time firefighters arrived, according to German Township Chief Matt Lynch and Hope Chief Chad Emmitt.

Firefighters were unable to fight the fire from inside the structure because a great amount of contents in the home fueled the fire and generated extreme heat, Emmitt said.

The house was described as a total loss, and the cause of the fire is undetermined, according to the chiefs.

No injuries were reported.

The Hartsville, Flat Rock, Clay, Wayne, Marietta and Bernie-Clay fire departments assisted.
