A local man was arrested on several charges Thursday morning after he reportedly caused a disturbance at a Columbus restaurant, including punching the drive-thru window and demanding free food.
Columbus police were sent to the Taco Bell drive-thru at 1:30 a.m. Thursday about a disturbance, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
Upon their arrival, the officers stopped a vehicle leaving the restaurant parking lot after employees reported that the driver of the vehicle, Michael P. McGinity, 31, of Columbus was upset over a food order and began punching the drive-thru window and demanding free food, Harris said.
While speaking to McGinity, the officers detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and noted that his speech was slurred, Harris said.
McGinity was uncooperative with officers and taken into custody after he refused to submit to certified chemical test for intoxication, Harris said. Officers applied for and later received a search warrant for a blood draw at Columbus Regional Hospital.
McGinity was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on the following preliminary charges: Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, failure to identify and obstruction of justice.
