Susan P. Blackburn, 72, formerly of Hope, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2019 at Hancock Regional Hospital.

Before retirement, Susan had worked in the cafeteria at Richards Elementary for 10 years. Susan greatly enjoyed her friendships with her co-workers as well as interacting with the students. She had previously been a homemaker and worked at a factory. She grew up in Batesville and graduated from Oldenburg Academy. As a young girl, Susan enjoyed riding her bicycle to the community pool in the summer. She was active in Girl Scouts, and her mother, Elenora, was a troop leader.

Susan was a member of Rugby United Brethren in Christ and was the treasurer for the Women’s Missionary Club. She enjoyed playing Bingo, doing word search puzzles, and watching game shows. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Born on December 6, 1946, Susan was the daughter of Aloysius and Elenora Fritsch Doll. She married Melvin Blackburn on May 22, 1981, and he preceded her in death on November 3, 2003.

Survivors include children, Phillip (Linda) Galbraith of Columbus, Evelyn Blackburn of Clifford, and Melissa (Nathaniel) Rockhill of Fortville; grandchildren, Tyler Galbraith, Amelia Rockhill, Ben Rockhill, and a baby granddaughter on the way; sister, Mary Jo (Lee) Bryson of Erlanger, KY; sisters-in-law, Joyce Blackburn of Clifford and Janie (Peter) Norberg of Ferguson, MO; and several nieces and nephews.

Susan is preceded in death by her parents and husband.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with Tracy McIntyre and Ray Skiles officiating. Visitation will be from noon until time of service on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Hawcreek Cemetery.
