Columbus resident and Trinity Lutheran senior Rachel Sabotin competed in four swimming events in the 2019 Speedo Junior National Championships Aug. 6 to 10 at Stanford University.
Sabotin, representing Club Olympia, finished 31st in both the 200 butterfly and 400 individual medley. She also was 42nd in the 200 IM, moving up from a 75th seed; and 48th in the 100 butterfly, moving up from 91st; both in personal-best times.

Panthers drop openers

The Jennings County Middle School volleyball teams dropped their season openers to Silver Creek on Thursday.
The Panther seventh-graders fell 25-19, 25-10. Ava Ebbing served six points, including an ace, and Mallory Manowitz and Kennedy Day each had an ace.
The eighth-graders lost 25-20, 25-9. Chloe Haeufle served five points, and Lucy Brown recorded two aces.
