Dorothy M. Blackburn, 95, of Columbus, died at 5:55 p.m. August 19, 2019, at her home in the arms of her loving children.

Dorothy was born October 20, 1923, in Adair County, Kentucky, the daughter of James Thomas and Susie Holtclaw Neat. She married John W. Blackburn on July 17, 1941, and he preceded her in death June 30, 2016.

She was not only a member of East Columbus Separate Baptist Church; she was the oldest living member of the church. Dorothy enjoyed canning, gardening and her designer purses. She also took pride that at her age she was very capable of making full use of her iPhone.

She not only loved her grandchildren, but she loved so many children and they all referred to her as Grandma.

The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, August 23, 2019, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Fields and the Rev. Jim Stump officiating. Calling will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service Friday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Survivors include her daughters, Mary (Ken) Bowling of Columbus and Alice Faye (Jim) Palmer of Louisville; a son, Bill (Brenda) Blackburn of Columbus; brother, Earl Neat of Adair County, Kentucky; grandchildren, Fred (Tina) Cave, Kenneth (Rueann) Cave, Angie (Jimmy) Adair, Donna (Daymond) Jordon, Tamara Cave, Shane (Amanda) Blackburn, Shannon Bullington, Trisha (Gary) Rudd, and Jenna (Bobby) Richards; 22 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; a son, Bobby Blackburn; seven brothers and four sisters; grandchildren, Terry Burton and Jeremy Luken; and a great-great grandson, Theodore Blackburn.
