BLOOMINGTON
Marguerite Rust, 107, passed away peacefully at her home in Bloomington Wednesday, August 28, 2019.
Born December 5, 1911, in Columbus, Indiana, she lived in East Lansing, Michigan and St Louis, Missouri before retiring in Bloomington, Indiana.
Marguerite was raised on a large farm in Rockcreek Township (Columbus). She graduated from Columbus High School in 1929 and continued her education to receive a degree from Depauw University. She was married for more than 50 years to her loving husband, James Rust.
Marguerite was a devoted wife and avid gardener. She also enjoyed cooking, quilting and birdwatching. She valued education and has established multiple scholarships to help others in pursuing further education.
Survivors include longtime friends, Bruce & Cathy Smith of Michigan, Wendell & Wanda Huff, Steve & Lisa Newton, Jim & Karen Reed, all of Columbus, Andy & Gail Baer of Alabama, and Joshua & Jessica Huber of Bedford.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Pamela Wright Burns; husband, James Rust; brother Everett Burns; and aunt, Anna Wright.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation will take place and a chapel service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Garland Brook Mausoleum with Pastor Ancel Harden officiating.
Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bartholomew County Humane Society.
