A record 1,800 volunteers are expected to converge on another record of 95 projects on United Way of Bartholomew County’s Day of Service, planned for Friday.
Volunteer hours on the day over its six-year history equal an investment of about $1 million, according to organizers.
Those numbers — 10,000 volunteers logging more than 40,000 hours of service — speak loudly, said Mark Stewart, United Way president, even though he acknowledged such figures are “not readily tracked” among nonprofits nationwide.
“But I think it speaks to the generosity of our community,” Stewart said. “And it shows how willing folks in our community are to roll up their sleeves and help out anywhere that help is needed.”
