‘Kid Architect’ author Gary Vance to speak today

Architect Gary Vance, author of the children’s book series “Kid Architect,” will speak at a free gathering at 5:30 p.m. today at the Columbus Area Visitors Center, 506 Fifth St. in downtown Columbus.

The presentation is part of Vance’s launch of the latest book “Kid Architect Goes to Columbus, Indiana,” according to organizers. Doors open at 5 p.m.

In the books, Kid Architect loves all things architecture. In the latest work, the character visits buildings, landscapes and public art of Columbus.

Snacks, beer and wine will be served.

Vance, who lives in Westfield, began writing “Kid Architect” as a way to introduce youngsters and others to the architecture of Columbus. Vance is a 42-year veteran of the design world.

He has been elected to the prestigious College of the Fellows of the American Institute of Architects and the College of Fellows of the American College of Healthcare Architects. He is a recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from his alma mater, the College of Architecture and Planning at Ball State University.

He is active in the education of architects-at-heart both young and old, including his three grandsons and 17 nieces and nephews.

The book sells for $18.
