Repairs to a broken gas line in the 3400 block of Marilyn Street are underway after a service crew struck a 2-inch gas line with an auger.

Columbus firefighters and Vectren responded to the gas leak after the Bartholomew REMC service crew reported the line break, said Capt. Mike Wilson, Columbus Fire Department spokesman.

Traffic was restricted on Marilyn and Carolina streets as the work continued.

No evacuation was necessary but firefighters and Vectren monitored gas levels in nearby homes as a precaution.

Vectren officials stated that the leak affected over a dozen homes.
