FLOYDS KNOBS — Columbus North opened boys soccer postseason play Monday with a 3-0 win against Jennings County in the opening round of the Class 3A Floyd Central Sectional.

The Bull Dogs led only 1-0 at halftime. Luke Schneider scored off an assist from Jesse Williams in the 31st minute.

North added to its lead in the second half. Sotaro Kaneda scored off an assist from Will Holliday in the 52nd minute, and Graham Keele finished a pass from Andrew Goble in the 50th minute.

The Bull Dogs (7-9-1) outshot the Panthers (1-14-1) 38-4, putting 21 shots on goal to one for Jennings. North’s Colvin Iorio recorded one save in the first 64 minutes, while Jared Marquez and Lukas Iorio did not face a shot over the final 16 minutes.

The Bull Dogs advance to face host Floyd Central in the semifinals at 5 p.m. Wednesday. New Albany will play Jeffersonville, and Columbus East will meet Seymour in today’s first-round matches, with the winners meeting in Wednesday’s 7 p.m. semifinal.

The sectional championship is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday.

Trinity advances

Zephyr Wilson scored three goals, and Kash Siefker two goals and three assists to lead Trinity Lutheran to a 6-1 win against Lanesville in the opening round of the Class A Trinity Sectional.

Micah Baumgartel added a goal, and Sawyer Doggett had two assists for the Cougars (2-11-1), who outshot the Eagles 42-20. Brayden Stockelman recorded five saves.

Trinity advances to face Austin in the semifinals at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
