Cummins-Ram engine partnership aids community

Cummins Inc. reached an important milestone in its history recently. On Sept. 27, it celebrated the 3 millionth engine it has built for the Ram truck.

While the ceremony at Cummins Midrange Engine Plant involved Cummins and Ram officials, and Cummins employees, the milestone is one that should make local residents happy.

Cummins is the county’s largest employer, so projects that provide steady jobs and wages are a good thing.

The Cummins-Ram partnership dates to 1988, which is impressive for its longevity. Equally important, the Ram engine is built at the Cummins Midrange Engine Plant at Walesboro — just south of Columbus — and has been since the early 1990s.

Present at the ceremony were nearly two dozen Cummins employees who have been with the company for 30 years, most of those years spent working at the Midrange Engine Plant.

The fact that the Cummins-Ram partnership has lasted more than 30 years indicates they have worked well to create a successful product that truck owners like.

We hope that success continues for many more years, because that means good things for Bartholomew County.
