Shopper arrested after drugs found during shoplifting investigation

Columbus police officers arrested a local woman on drug possession charges after she was reportedly observed shoplifting at a Columbus store on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers were sent to Walmart, 735 Whitfield Drive, at 4:50 p.m. Wednesday about a woman removing the price tags off of items and placing the unpaid items in her purse, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The woman, later identified as Lacey C. Campbell, 32, of 3833 Camden Drive, attempted to exit the store without paying for the items in her purse, Harris said.

While confiscating the unpaid items inside Campbellā€™s purse, the officers reportedly located methamphetamine and hydrocodone, Harris said.

Campbell was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of theft, possession of methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance, jail officials said.

She has since been released from jail, according to jail officials.
