COLUMBUS
Shirley A. Pappas, 81, of Columbus, passed away at 3:20 a.m. Sunday, October 20, 2019 at home surrounded by family.
Shirley was born July 8, 1938, in Lexington, Kentucky, the daughter of James and Nettie Wills Lawell.
Mrs. Pappas worked at IUPUI, First Christian Church and retired from Cummins Engine Company. Shirley was baptized at the 6th Street Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing bingo, scrabble and nickel poker. Her favorite show to watch on television was Dr. Phil.
Survivors include her children, James Johnson of Seymour, Don Pappas of Taylorsville, Sheri (Roger) Ritchie, Tina Pappas, both of Columbus; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Pier of West Virginia, Debbie Kay Johnson and ex-husband, Larry Pappas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Don Lawell; sister, Donna Sue Ballard; daughter, Tammi Phillips, daughter-in-law, Glenda Pappas and grandson, Austin Woods.
In keeping with the family’s wishes, cremation will take place and there are no services planned at this time.
