Patriotism and nostalgia harmonize to form a dynamic duo when the Ladies of Liberty salute the war effort and more.
The singing trio, in the vein of the classic Andrews Sisters, vocalize about a past when unity was paramount and love for the country was as galvanizing as a smart salute.
“World War II was a time when patriotism was at its highest,” said Wanda Martin, the trio’s owner and manager. “With a sense of unity, all Americans put their total effort into winning the war. The music of that era reflects the spirit of those people.”

You can bet your war bonds that Martin and her cohorts, rotated among a team of nine women, reflect that spirit in their vocals, costuming and more. The threesome will perform a free concert at 6 p.m. Nov. 14 in the Red Room of the Bartholomew County Public Library, 536 Fifth St. in Columbus just after Veterans Day.
Attendees can close their eyes and swear The Andrews Sisters have stepped from yesteryear when the women launch into their spirited rendition of “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B” and “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree.”
The vocalists have performed at Independence Day celebrations, Wounded Warrior benefits and a host of other gatherings.
Audiences have gushed about their performances. The group’s website at ladiesforliberty.com includes a generous overflow of listeners’ comments.
“You are the real deal,” said Joey Elliott of Bedford. “It is so obvious the passion, heart, soul and personal sacrifices you all put in this to make a difference in others’ lives. I almost felt as if I had lived in this era and was reliving it.”
People interested in attending the local show can pick up free tickets beginning Nov. 1 at the main branch or at the Hope Branch Library on the historic Hope town square or at Mill Race Center at 900 Lindsey St.
