If Shirley Sims had known she would be going to her senior prom on Wednesday, she said she may have traded her plaid flannel for her palazzo pants and a fancy shirt.

“I don’t know many people who wear a flannel to a prom,” Sims, 86, said. “But I’d have to look mighty deep for a prom dress these days.”

Residents at Willow Crossing Health and Rehabilitation were greeted with a corsage completed with three fresh white carnations and green leaves as music from the 1940s and 1950s played over the speakers. Gold, white and blue balloons garnished the tables and photos of Paris, France, decorated the walls of the facility’s dining room.

For two hours Wednesday, more than 40 residents ranging in age from 60s to 103 years old relived their glory days and went back to their senior prom.

Only this time, they’re a different kind of senior.
