Financial aid professionals from Ivy Tech Community College — Columbus will help college-bound students and their families prepare to apply for financial aid during College Goal Sunday.
The event will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Columbus Learning Center, 4555 Central Ave. The free program assists Indiana students in filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The form is required for students to be considered for federal and state grants, scholarships and student loans at most colleges, universities and vocational and technical schools nationwide. The deadline to file is April 15 to be eligible for Indiana financial aid.
Students should attend with their parents and/or guardians and parents should bring their completed 2018 IRS 1040 tax returns, W-2 forms and other 2018 income and benefits information. Students who worked in 2018 should bring their income information. Students who are 24 or older may attend alone and bring their own tax return, W-2 form or other income and benefits information. Students and parents are encouraged to apply for their U.S. Department of Education Federal Student Aid IDs at fsaid.ed.gov before coming to the event.
Students who attend College Goal Sunday have a chance to win one of five $1,000 scholarships. Students who fill out a completed evaluation form are automatically entered in a drawing for the scholarship. Winners are notified in December and prizes are sent directly to the higher education institution selected by the student.
