Columbus police officers arrested a local man on several charges including dealing in methamphetamine after his vehicle was stopped on Monday night.
At approximately 9:30 p.m., officers stopped Anthony W. Brown, 51, of 3385 Virginia St., near McKinley Avenue and Gladstone Avenue after he was seen driving a truck while in possession of a suspended driver’s license, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
A short time later, a police canine was requested and responded to the scene of the traffic stop, Harris said. The canine alerted to the odor of narcotics inside Brown’s truck, Harris said.
While searching the vehicle, officers located more than 30 grams of methamphetamine and a small amount of marijuana, Harris said.
Brown was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where he was being held on the following preliminary charges:
Felony dealing in methamphetamine
Felony possession of methamphetamine
Felony maintaining a common nuisance
Misdemeanor driving while suspended with a prior conviction
Misdemeanor possession of marijuana
Brown was being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $341,000 bond, jail officials said.
