COLUMBUS
Ronald D. Wolf, 76, of Columbus, died at 9:55 a.m. Monday, November 11, 2019, at Four Seasons Health Care Center.
Ronald was born April 4, 1943, at home in Grainfield, KS., the son of Raymond and Elizabeth (Albers) Wolf. He worked on his family farm throughout his school years but still managed to graduate 2nd in his class. A strong work ethic was instilled in him by his father and aided him throughout his life. He was a member of FFA throughout high school and received a top award as a state farmer. Although he received an appointment to the Air Force Academy, he chose to attend KSU and major in Nuclear Engineering because it looked like the hardest course of study possible.
He met his wife Mary Jeanne Fleek while in college. They were united in marriage on October 23, 1965. Their son, Scott, was born in 1966 and their daughter, Ruth followed in 1969. Upon graduation Ron worked at Boeing in Seattle for four years on the 747. In 1970, the family moved to Columbus where Ron worked for Cummins as an engineer and manager. Much of his work involved product planning and managing of the competitive engine laboratory. He retired in 2002 after 32 years of service.
His favorite pastimes included bowling, bridge, gardening, and travel. He and his wife were able to take over 10 cruises including Alaska, Hawaii, Mediterranean, Caribbean, and Panama Canal. They most enjoyed their tour of Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. Ireland, Paris and London were special, but their final family trip to Maui on their 50th wedding anniversary was exceptional.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife Mary Jeanne, his son Scott (Bronwyn), daughter Ruth and granddaughter Maya, the greatest joy of his heart. He is also survived by brothers, Larry and Dan Wolf, sisters, Shirley (Max) Seeger, Judy (Mike) Anderson and Patsy (John) Link, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Elizabeth (Albers) Wolf, brother David, and four infant brothers and sisters.
Ron was a strong, silent man who worked hard, loved his family, and enjoyed life to the end in his own quiet way. He’ll be missed by all who truly knew and loved him.
In keeping with the family’s wishes, cremation will take place. A memorial service for Ronald will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 16, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Howard Boles officiating. Calling will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church.
