COLUMBUS
Joseph Boyd Gill, 69, of Columbus, passed away at 6:55 p.m. Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Joe was born October 6, 1950, in Franklin, Indiana, the son of Albert Boyd and Alice Drake Gill. On July 14, 2001, he married Sabrina Sims.
Mr. Gill worked at The Republic Newspaper for over 42 years. During that time, he worked his way up through many different positions including reporter, sports writer and eventually became Senior News Editor.
Joe enjoyed putting together complex puzzles, loved to tinker and looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of East Columbus Christian Church since 2009.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 20 years, Sabrina; children, Aaron Gill, Benjamin (Diane) Busic, both of Columbus, Stephanie (Travis) Kraft of Nashville, TN., Ami (Mike) Berkemeier of Cincinnati, OH., Andrea (Sam) Rogers of Winchester, VA. and Miranda (Jeremy) Tempest of Seymour; 24 grandchildren and nephew, Jonathan Gill of Plainfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In keeping with the family’s request, cremation will take place and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Andrea Rogers and Ron Bridgewater officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
