SEYMOUR
Mrs. Mary K. Schleter, 88, of Seymour, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Covered Bridge Health Campus. She was born in Seymour to the late Paul and Frances (Ault) Huber.
Funeral services will be at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Saturday, November 30 at 1 p.m. with Revs. Les Bearden and Michael Seaney officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
Family and friends may call at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Friday from 4-7 p.m. and Saturday from 12 noon until time of service.
She graduated from Shields high school in 1949 where she was a cheerleader for two years. On April 29, 1951, at First Methodist Church in Seymour, she married the love of her life, Donald L. Schleter; he survives. Out of high school she worked at Capital Finance, Associate Finance, Moore Insurance Agency. Mary did all the bookkeeping for Quality Seed Company for 44 years. Mary was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church since 1955 where she served on many committees and sang in the choir for several years. She had been a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary since 1981 and was a Schneck Medical Center Volunteer for 27 years.
Don and Mary were instrumental in starting the Farmers Market in downtown Seymour. She was a huge part in Schleter Produce on Schleter Road. She helped her husband, sons, and daughter in law in growing the best produce in Seymour. She canned, froze, and baked everything that the came from their garden. She loved working in her vegetable and especially her flower gardens. She was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. She always, to a fault, put the welfare and needs of others, above her own.
Mary is survived by her sons, Donald Schleter, Jr., Paul (Debi) Schleter, Michael (Terri) Schleter; grandchildren, Erin (Clay) Neeley, Greg (Amber) Schleter, Jessie Schleter
Jackie (Matt) Magill, Amy (Mario Barrientos) Schleter, Josh (Whitney) Schleter, Ryan Schleter; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sister-in-law, Shirley Huber as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Norman L. Huber; sister, Irma H. Cooper.
