The Columbus Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign gets a boost Friday from a matching donation of $2,500 from the local Bender Lumber.
The firm will match every donation dollar for dollar from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to Capt. Amy Tompkins, the leader of the local ministry and social service outreach.
Friday marks the beginning of an amped-up kettle campaign, with 13 locations total throughout the city. That includes places such as Rural King at 2985 N. National Road, Circle K at 1720 N. National Road, and Hobby Lobby at 1149 N. National Road. All locations will be listed by Friday morning at the Facebook page for Columbus Salvation Army.
Through today, kettle locations have been more limited because merchants preferred to wait until after Thanksgiving before making room for the kettles at area businesses, Tompkins said.
"Once Black Friday hits, that’s when the bigger push begins," she said.
The kettle campaign continues through Dec. 24.
