Lane Lauderbaugh // South Decatur junior basketball player
Lauderbaugh recorded 22 points and eight rebounds in an 84-72 season-opening win at Trinity Lutheran and led the Cougars with 38 points and 12 rebounds in Saturday’s 95-93 victory at Oldenburg Academy.

FEMALE
Betsy King // Columbus North senior swimmer
King won the 100-yard freestyle and finished second in the 50 freestyle in a 120-66 loss to Franklin and in Saturday’s 119-64 loss to North Central. She also swam on two winning relay teams against Franklin.
Her performance last week: “I was excited to get in the pool just because it’s the beginning of the season. I thought I still needed improvement because I don’t think I did that well, but obviously, the rest of the season, I’m going to work on some things.”
Do you do anything special to prepare? “I eat buttered noodles the night before every meet.”
Favorite drink: “Lemonade”

Best advice: “To keep my head up. You’re always going to have bad times, but you can’t think about the bad times. You have to shake it off for five seconds and then get ready for the next thing.”
Athletics goal: “To make it to state finals in the 100 freestyle and 50 freestyle.”
