Club Olympia takes ninth in Holiday Championships

Club Olympia finished ninth among 21 teams from Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio in the 2019 WTSC Holiday Championships at North Central High School.

First-place winners were Brady Beyer (200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 400 individual medley); Misha Machavariani (200 IM, 500 freestyle and 1650 freestyle) and Nalanie Cortez (50 freestle).

Achieving 2020 state and divisional championships time standards were Beyer, Cortez, Ashley Freel, Nick Green, Todd Hundley, Maggie Johnson, Misha Machavariani, Evan Patterson, Joshua Pendleton and Hope Westphal. Making 2020 divisional championships time standards were Advika Badve, Zoie Chandelkar, Cassidy Furnish, Connelly Furnish, Sanaa Kulkarni, Grier Lane, Alyssa Liu, Tony Machavariani, Hannah Manlief, Braylee Moore, Ayush Panda, Daniella Preston and Adriana Terry.

Cortez won the girls 13-14 50 freestyle and placed second in the 200 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 400 IM and third in the 100 freestyle, 200 IM and 500 freestyle.

Ashley Freel finished third in the 13-14 girls 100 butterfly, fourth in the 200 butterfly and fifth in the 400 IM. Westphal, who competed unattached, placed third in the 1,650 freestyle.

Chandlelkar finished fourth in the girls 10-and-under 50 freestyle and fifth in the 50 breaststroke. Connelly Furnish (10) placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke. Badve, Kulkarni, Chandelkar and Lane took third in the 200 medley relay.

Johnson finished fifth in the girls 15-and-over 200 butterfly.

Beyer won the boys 13-14 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 400 IM and finished second in the 500 freestyle.

Misha Machavariani won the boys 11-12 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 1,650 freestyle and the 200 IM and placed second in the 50 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke and third in the 50 butterfly and 100 butterfly. Todd Hundley, competing unattached, finished second in theĀ  200 freestyle and 1,650 freestyle and fifth in the 200 IM.

Green placed fourth in the boys 15-and-over 200 butterfly. Evan Patterson took second in the 100 freestyle, third in the 100 butterfly and fifth in the 200 freestyle.

Pendleton placed second in the boys 10-and-under 200 freestyle, third in the 50 butterfly, 100 backstroke and 200 IM and fourth in the 100 freestyle. Shreyan Kulkarni was fifth in the 200 IM. Tony Machavariani finished fourth in the 100 butterfly. Machavariani, Kulkarni, Pendleton and Das took fifth in the 200 medley relay.

HOCKEY

Squirt Blue wins twice

The Columbus Flames Squirt Blue beat Junior Fuel-Fishers 4-0 and 4-1 last weekend. Brooks Larsh netted four goals and one assist, Gabriel Marsh had one goal and three assists, Rowan Correll added one goal and two assists, Aaron Warble and Zane Lynch each scored goal and Grace Wallace notched three assists. Canyon Long had a save percentage of 94.4.

The Columbus Icemen varsity fell to South Bend Adams on 4-3, beat Valparaiso 2-1 and lost to Carmel Blue 3-2. Evan Federle netted two goals and two assists, Brayson Bennett had one goal and five assists, Ty Boone added two goals and one assist, Tom Sullivan had one goal and one assist, Joe Neal scored one goal and Wil Tearman and John Ferguson each added one assist.

BASKETBALL

Spartans edge Panthers

The Northside eighth-grade boys edged Jennings County Blue 29-27 on Wednesday. Drew Burkman led the Panthers (3-3) with nine points.

The Jennings seventh-grade boys Blue team beat Crothersville 33-29 on Monday. Eli Simmons led the Panthers (2-3) with 10 points.

The St. Peters girls topped the Jennings seventh-grade Blue team 39-25. Trinity Burke led the Panthers with 10 points.
