The Columbus Flames Squirts and the Pee Wee Flames A hockey teams won championships at last weekend’s South Bend Irish Cup.
The Squirts tied the Afton Americans 3-3 and beat the South Indy Sharks 6-0 and the Northwest Chargers 5-0 and tied the Glenview Stars 3-3. The Squirts then beat the Glenview Stars 5-1 in the title game.
Ryan McGhehey scored five goals, Aaron Warble and Ayden Richardson each netted four goals and one assist; Drew Moenssen scored four goals; Tsukasa Udo added three goals; Gabriel Marsh had one goal and four assists, Carter Kareus scored one goal; Grace Wallace had three assists; Rowan Correll and Bryson Moore each added 2 assists; and Uriah Oliphant, Jonah Broderick and Preston Bell each had one assist. Canyon Long was in net with a save percentage of 89.06.

The Pee Wee Flames A beat the Tecumseh Eagles 2-0, lost to the Winterhurst Warriors 3-2 and beat the Highland Park Falcons 5-0 before beating the Winterhurst Warriors 4-1 for the title.
Drew Weed led the Peewees with three goals and one assist. Eduardo Aranda-Michel scored three goals, Wyatt Warner added two goals and 10 assists, Sawyer Patterson had two goals and two assists, Lance Kitterman recorded two goals and one assist, Carson King added one goal and one assist, Westin Davis had three assists, Leif Nelson added two assists and Bryce McDonald and Vaughn Moenssen each had one assist.
The Peewee Flames B beat Franklin Park 4-3, lost to the Nashville Flyers 3-2 and the Peoria Jr Rivermen 8-1 and beat Fort Wayne Force 8-1. Vaughn Moenssen netted three goals and rhree assists, River Degner added three goals and two assists, Griffin Mudd had two goals and one assist, Drew Moenssen and Tyson Tyner each scored two goals, John Warble had one goal and one assist, Blake Avery and Kaitlyn Netser each scored one goal, Ashton Nguyen had two assists, and Cole Finney added one assist. Lane Barringer was in net with 83.5 save percentage.
Bantam Flames lost to Northbrook 3-1 and beat Fox Motors 6-5 and lost to Belle River 5-2, Northbrook 4-1. Alex Clark netted six goals and one assist, Nicholas Goggins added two goals and one assist, Samuel McGhehey and Jack Warble each scored one goal and Barrett Mudd had two assists. Ben Blanz and Zach Goggins each played two games in goal.
The Flames Mites finished second place in a separate tournament. They lost to the Shaker Raiders 8-4, beat the Parma Flyers 14-7, lost to the Fort Wayne Force 3-16 and fell to the Force again 19-5 in the title game. Brooks Larsh netted 11 goals and nine assists, Tom King added six goals and one assist, Logan Barringer had three goals and seven assists, Maddox Coy recorded three goals and six assists, Carter Harris had one goal and nine assists, Keaton Grube added one goal and eight assists, Bentley Hampton netted one goal and six assists, Lukas Jozsa had 16 assists, Daniel Wallace added eight assists and Jack Sargent had six assists. Cayden Long was in net with a save percentage of 66.48.
Icemen post three wins
The Columbus Icemen beat the South Stars White 9-2 and downed Evansville White 5-0 and 11-1 last weekend.
Joe Neal led the Icemen with six goals and one assist. Tom Sullivan netted four goals and three assists, Brayson Bennett added four goals and one assist, Blaine Humphrey had three goals and one assist, John Ferguson recorded two goals and six assists, Andrew Clark had two goals and three assists, Josh Surrette scored two goals, Wil Tearman netted one goal and four assists, Logan Morris added one goal and two assists and Evan Federle had two assists.
Cam Stattenfield posted a shutout in the first game against Evansville White. Jacob McMullen was in net one game with a save percentage of 84.62, and Evan Kuzman was in net for the other with a save percentage of 80.0.
SWIMMING
Club Olympia takes fifth
Club Olympia finished fifth out of 15 teams from six states with 2,518 points in last weekend’s FAST Santa Claus Classic at Fishers.
Rachel Sabotin finished second in the Girls Open Division with 164 points. She won the 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly and 400 individual medley and took second in the 200 IM, hird in the 200 freestyle, fourth in the 200 backstroke and fifth in the 1,650 freestyle.
Nalanie Cortez placed second in the girls 13-14 division with 161 points. She won the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 1,650 freestyle an finished second in the 100 butterfly and third in the 200 IM.
Todd Hundley finished second in the boys 11-12 division with 154 points. He won the 1,650 freestyle and finished third in the 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 IMand 500 freestyle and fifth in the 200 freestyle.
Nick Green placed third in the Boys Open division with 141 points. He won the 400 IM and finished fourth in the 200 butterfly and fifth in the 200 IM and 500 freestyle.
Shreyan Kulkarni finished fourth in the boys 8-and-under division with 168 points. He was second in the 200 freestyle and 200 IM, fourth in the 100 freestyle and 100 IM and fifth in the 25 freestyle and 50 butterfly.
Ashley Freel placed fourth in the girls 13-14 division with 152 points. She finished third in the 100 freestyle, 1,650 freestyle and 200 butterfly; fourth in the 200 freestyle and 200 IM and fifth in the 100 butterfly, 400 IM and 500 freestyle.
Brady Beyer finished fourth in the boys open division with 137 points. He won the 200 breaststroke and placed third in the 200 backstroke and 400 IM and fifth in the 100 breaststroke and 200 butterfly.
Evan Patterson won the boys open 200 IM, 100 butterfly and 100 freestyle. Misha Machavariani captured the boys 11-12 100 breaststroke and 200 freestyle and finished second in the 200 IM and 500 freestyle and fourth in the 50 butterfly.
Hope Westfphal finished second in the girls 13-14 1,650 freestyle, third in the 100 backstroke and fourth in the 200 backstroke. Connelly Furnish placed third in the girls 10-and-under 100 breaststroke and fifth in the 50 breaststroke and 200 freestyle.
Tony Machavariani took second in the boys 8-and-under 100 freestyle and fourth in the 50 backstroke. Zoie Chandelkar was fourth in the girls 10-and-under 50 breaststroke.
BROOMball
Monsters stay perfect
Monsters of Rock ran its record to 6-0 with a 3-2 win against Vagabonds in a battle for first place in the Columbus Broomball League.
Ben Andrews, Zack Henderson and Kyle Roshak netted goals for Monsters. Ryan Ingalls and Ricky Hooten scored for Vagabonds (4-1).
Toyota Tsunamis blanked Hansons 3-0. Todd Houchin, Jimmy Robertson and Clayton McNeally scored for Tsunamis (3-2).
Hansons also tied Our Name Is Earl 2-2. Dave VanValkenburg and Ryan Jepson scored for Hansons (1-4-1). Ellie Lutz and Dane Bremer scored for Earl (1-3-1).
Jennings County BC (1-5) edged CCA (2-3) 1-0. Eric Wernke netted the game’s lone goal.
BASKETball
Panthers top Rebels
Dylan Harrison scored 31 points Monday to lead the Jennings County eighth-grade boys Blue team to a 54-48 win against Southwestern (Hanover). The Panthers improved to 4-4.
The Jennings seventh-grade Blue team fell to Southwestern 51-19. Landon Pike led the Panthers (2-6) with nine points.

Drive raises cash, bikes
Hoosier Pro Wrestling returned to Columbus last weekend for the “16th Annual Firemen’s Cheer Fund Toy Drive 2.” More than $1,000 was raised for the Firemen’s Cheer Fund Toy Drive in cash, toys and bicycles.
In wrestling action, Corvis pinned Cooter, and Ace Jackson and Bubby James beat Donnie Blyze and Piper to win the HPW Tag Belts. Lightning Bolt pinned Guy Lombardo, and Scarecrow/D Rose pinned DooDo Brown to win the New HPW Cruiserweight Belt.
Flash Flanagan beat Shilo Jonezs, and Duke The Nuke beat Omega De by DQ when Apollo attacked Duke. Buck Sexton with D Rose pinned Butcher Manson to win the HPW Heavyweight Title.
HPW teturns to the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds on Jan. 4.
