BOYS BASKETBALL

North falls to Fishers

FISHERS — Columbus North endured its first loss of the season Saturday night, a 52-48 setback at Fishers.

The Tigers (6-0) jumped out to a 31-23 halftime lead and held on in the battle of unbeatens who are receiving votes in this week’s Associated Press Class 4A poll.

Blake Barker led the Bull Dogs (4-1) with 22 points and five rebounds. Nick Schiavello added 14 points and four steals, and Casper Clark chipped in nine points.

North shot 57 percent (16 for 28) from 2-point range, but only 21 percent (3 for 14) from 3-point range.

Panthers down Eagles

AUSTIN — Jennings County trailed Austin 23-19 at halftime, but outscored the Eagles 19-6 in the third quarter and went on to post a 50-45 victory.

Keegan Manowitz led the Panthers (3-1) with 15 points, while Aaron Martin scored 14, and Carson McNulty added 11. Trey Wilson grabbed eight rebounds.

Lancers edge Chargers

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh trailed 52-50 after three quarters before rallying for a 71-67 Mid-Hoosier Conference win over North Decatur.

Caleb Dewey led the Lancers (2-3, 2-0) with 20 points. Parker Neumann scored 15, and Noah Detling added 13.

SWIMMING

East girls finish second

SHELBYVILLE — Columbus East’s girls finished second, and the Olympian boys took third out of seven teams in the Shelbyville Relays.

Pendleton Heights won the girls title with 138 points to 124 for East. Shelbyville captured the boys crown with 132 points to 114 for Yorktown and 108 for the Olympians.

The East girls won two relays. Mya Johnson, Kerigan Greathouse, Ellie Proffitt and Jennifer Utterback took the 375-yard freestyle relay in 3 minutes 46.95 seconds; and Catherine Wolf, Halle Herbert, Hope Hornyak and Johnson captured the 100 freestyle relay in 54.45.

The Olympians also finished second in the 200 medley (1:58.66), 200 freestyle (1:46.76), 150 breaststroke (1:47.67) and 400 freestyle (3:56.73) relays.

For the East boys, Ryan Smith, Dathan Wolf, Chad Kelly and Justin Borowski won the 375 freestyle relay in 3:39.98. The Olympians took second in the 400 medley (4:15.15), 100 freestyle (50.46), 1,000 freestyle (11:08.05), 200 freestyle (1:40.52) and 400 freestyle (3:40.46) relays.

North teams take third

Columbus North’s boys and girls finished third in their annual North Relays meet.

Bloomington North won the boys meet with 456 1/2 points to 429 for Floyd Central and 405 1/2 for the Bull Frogs. Floyd Central edged Bloomington North 433-432 for the girls title, while Columbus North had 404.

The Bull Frog girls won six events. Betsy King, Bryleigh Shaffstall, Riddhi Garg and Olivia Morlok took the 500 freestyle (5:03.40); Paige Maddox, Erica Samuel and Lauren Brault captured the 1,000 freestyle relay (11:14.86); Brault, Samuel, coach Logan Schaefer and parent Adam Clock won the swimmer-swimmer-coach-parent 100 medley relay (56.49); King, Shaffstall, Garg and Siri Poludasu took the 100 freestyle relay (50.96); Paige Sherlock, King, Shaffstall and Samuel captured the 400 freestyle flutter kick with a board (5:42.50). King also won the skins 50 freestyle (25.09).

For the boys, Tristen Cook, David Fry, Pratt Badve and Will Russell won the 200 butterfly relay (1:58.84). McAlister, Fry, Schaefer and Clock took the swimmer-swimmer-coach-parent 100 medley relay (51.43).

WRESTLING

Olympians go 3-2

INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus East lost to Carmel 54-12; beat Greenfield-Central 44-21, Oldham County (Kentucky) 61-15 and Warren Central B 50-28 and lost to Perry Meridian 53-15 to finish third place in the Perry Meridain Tournament with a 3-2 record.

Kade Law (152 pounds) and Noah White (182) each went 5-0 for the Olympians. Eli Pollitt (160) went 4-1. Liam Krueger (106), Noah Lykins (113), James Thompson (138), Jacob Shaver (145) and Ashton Hartwell (285) all went 3-2.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Panthers pick up win

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County snapped a three-game losing streak and picked up its first Hoosier Hills Conference win, a 48-39 decision over New Albany.

Lily Ernstes led the Panthers (3-6, 1-2) with 20 points. Kali Thompson added 12.

Lancers rout Indians

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh had little trouble in rolling to a 79-42 win against Milan.

The Lancers improved to 7-3.
