After 18 months of delays, a court hearing for a retired law enforcement officer accused of molesting a child has once again been postponed.
Larry L. Scott, 73, of Hope is charged with two counts of child molesting involving a child under 14 – both as Level 4 felonies. He’s also facing two Level 6 felonies: possession of child pornography and performing sexual conduct in the presence of a minor. Scott is also facing one count of possession of paraphernalia as a Class C misdemeanor.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the charges involve a 12-year-old boy that investigators say was molested at Ceraland Park and Campground during the two days before Scott’s arrest.
Monday’s hearing was the third time that a change of plea hearing for Scott was postponed. Earlier postponements took place this year on March 18 and July 29.
On Monday, Bartholomew Superior Court 1 Judge Jim Worton agreed to Johnson’s request that a combined change of plea and sentencing hearing may be held early next year. It was scheduled for Feb. 18 at 1:30 p.m.
When asked the reasons for his unique request, Johnson said his client, who will turn 74 on Jan. 22, has a number of health screenings that he will undergo the next few months.
