A local woman who was found unresponsive in the driver’s seat of her car at a Columbus intersection was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated on Friday.

Columbus police were sent to Gladstone Avenue and State Street at 8:35 a.m. Friday about a woman passed out behind the steering wheel of a locked Honda Civic, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

When officers arrived, they utilized a “lockout kit” to unlock the vehicle where they administered aid to the woman who had a faint pulse and was later identified as Maria G. Garcia, 43, of Columbus, Harris said.

Garcia was given naloxone by paramedics and she awoke a short time later, Harris said.

Garcia was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital and submitted to a blood draw. She was later placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where she was being held on a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
