NORTH VERNON — Two North Vernon residents were arrested on drug-related charges after a domestic disturbance report was called in for a home in Geneva Township.
Deputies were sent to the disturbance at 2:45 a.m. Saturday, said Jennings County Sheriff Department Chief Deputy Dave Turner.
When deputies arrived, they made contact with a female who had sustained serious injuries from a battery, Turner said. During the course of the investigation, they learned the female victim had fled to a neighbor’s residence after the battery occurred and that her 3-month-old child was still in the residence with the father and friends and they were possibly using drugs, Turner said.
The female was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Deputies then went to the residence where the battery occurred on Gintshire Way to continue the investigation, Turner said.
Deputies made contact with the suspect in the battery, Ashdon Davis, 24, North Vernon, and four other occupants that were in the residence, Turner said.
During the investigation, deputies observed drug paraphernalia in plain view. Deputy Garrett Hoppock then applied for a search warrant that was granted by the Jennings Circuit Court. A later search of the home uncovered fentanyl in the bedroom that the 3-month-old child was in, illegal drugs inside of the child’s diaper bag and illegal drugs throughout the home, Turner said.
The drugs located included a large amount of pills, approximately 300 grams of THC wax and drug paraphernalia, Turner said.
The Department of Child Services took custody of the infant, Turner said.
Davis was arrested on the following preliminary charges:
- Felony domestic battery in the presence of a minor
- Felony neglect of a dependent
- Felony possession of a narcotic drug
- Misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance
- Misdemeanor possession of marijuana
- Misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia
- Misdemeanor maintaining a common nuisance
Also, Jordan McCarty, 21, North Vernon, was arrested on preliminary charges of misdemeanor dealing in marijuana and misdemeanor possession of marijuana, Turner said.
Both individuals have been bonded out of the Jennings County Jail, Turner said.
