MEDORA
Jack Gilbert, age 79, of Medora, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 19, 2019, at his residence with his wife by his side.
Mr. Gilbert was a life-time member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Medora, where he held various offices.
Jack was employed with Cummins Engine Company for 30 years, and also worked at J.C. Penneys. He served two terms as a Jackson County Commissioner and was a Merit Board member.
Jack’s pride and joy was his family. He loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed giving his family rides on his side-by-side, spending time in the shop, cutting wood, attending antique shows, and collecting guns.
Born on March 27, 1940, in Jackson County, he was the son of Stanley and Frankie Cockerham Gilbert, both of whom preceded him in death. On May 18, 1958, at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Medora, he married Gladys Maynard and she survives in Medora.
Survivors also include one son, Jack (Linda) Gilbert of Medora; three daughters: Penny Lane of Las Vegas, Nevada, Sherry (Lester) Teulker of Brownstown, and Sheila Striegel of Medora; ten grandchildren: Douglas Lane, Kelly Lane, Natalie (Eric) VanZuiden, Amber Teulker, Jamie (Jason) Schroeder, Kristi (Matt) Burbrink, Heather (Blaine) Stevens, Whitney (Levi) Goforth, Isaiah Gilbert, and Joseph Striegel; and ten great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Jack was also preceded in death by two sisters: Patty Hall and Margie Cummings; and a half brother, Carl Gilbert.
Funeral services for Jack Gilbert will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 23, 2019, at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Medora, with Jerry Michael Maynard and Jack Suits officiating. Friends may call from 12:00 noon until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2019, at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Medora, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at Mount Zion United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Mount Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, Medora.
A Masonic service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2019, at Mount Zion United Methodist Church.
