Melvin Dean “Sonny” McKain, 69, of Seymour, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2019, at Norton Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, with his family by his side.

Mr. McKain was a member of Seymour Christian Church.

Sonny worked at Cummins Engine Company most of his life, and he also worked at Rose Acres. He was a life-long member of the NRA, Rocky Mountain Elk Federation, and Wild Turkey Federation.

Sonny was a generous man. He had a “big” heart and was devoted to his family. He loved spending time with his family, cooking for them, and also enjoyed family “get-togethers”. He loved traveling with his wife, especially traveling to St. Petersburg, Florida, and the Florida Keys. Sonny was an outdoorsman and loved gardening, and hunting in Colorado.

Born on September 17, 1950, in Seymour, he was the son of Kenneth Dean and Madeline Crawford McKain, both of whom preceded him in death. On September 9, 2004, in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, he married Jaynie Kay Moss and she survives in Seymour.

Survivors also include two sons: Jesse Fosbrink of Columbus, and Garrett McKain; two daughters: Amy (John) Henson of Seymour, and Beth Wilson of Evansville; daughter-in-law, Joanna Fosbrink of Seymour; one sister, Mary Ellen (Curtis) Wischmeier of Seymour; two step-brothers: Bill Hatton and Robert Hatton; step-sister, Linda Russell; eight grandchildren: Brandon Henson, Jayla Fosbrink, Edan Wilson, Judah Wilson, Derrick Fosbrink, John McKain, Angie (Glen) England, and Rachel McKain; nieces and nephews: Denise (Chris) Connell, James (Lori) Wischmeier, and Mark (Marianne) Wischmeier; and great-nieces and great-nephews: Cameron Connell, Maggie Connell, Kate Connell, Ethan Wischmeier, Eli Wischmeier, Owen Wischmeier, Lucas Wischmeier, and Greta Wischmeier.

Sonny was also preceded in death by a son, Jay Fosbrink; a grandson, Blake Henson; and step-brothers: Larry Hatton and Jerry Hatton.

Funeral services for Melvin Dean “Sonny” McKain will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 23, 2019, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor Andy Schroeder officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 23, 2019, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown.

Memorials may be given to Seymour Christian Church Building Fund.
